SGN resonded within the hour, but they found water in the gas main and started checking the neighbouring houses, it seemed as 5 other houses were affected. within the next couple of hours over a hundred houses had been affected by the leak into the gas main.
It took nearly six hours for Thames Water to respond and attend the properties in question and what followed, must have been a bit of a nightmare for the residents as they were digging up the road until 2am and it took over a week to restore it to normality.
So what does that have to do with having your boiler checked I hear you ask? Well if it had not been for that one boiler service highlighting the problem the whole road could have been without a gas supply for some time if the water leak into the gas main had carried on unchecked.
